Tim Bishop

Funeral Director and Manager

We welcome Tim Bishop to the Kuhler Funeral Home. His longevity to the funeral home profession is appreciated, and has been recently recognized, as he has been promoted to manager of the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Tim is no stranger to the Huron community, as he and his family have lived in the Huron area for 15 years. Tim’s family includes his wife, Lisa; and their three children, Annalise (Matthew) Brink, Josiah Bishop and Elijah Bishop.

He is an active member of Bethesda Church, as well as Huron Noons Lions.

Tim enjoys fishing and the outdoors, golfing, reading, and spending time with his family.

Tim grew up at Rock Falls, Iowa, and graduated from Plymouth Road Christian School at Plymouth, Iowa, in 1990.

He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Northwestern College at Orange City, Iowa, and his Mortuary Science Degree from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, at Cincinnati, Ohio.

Tim has previously served families at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, Iowa, Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa, Miller Funeral Home and George Boom Funeral Home, both in Sioux Falls, and most recently the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Tim is a licensed funeral director/embalmer in South Dakota and Iowa.

He is also a licensed insurance agent in South Dakota, and represents Homesteader’s Life, and the quality line of funeral funding products that they offer.

Cole Hamerla

Funeral Director

Cole Hamerla grew up in Coal City, Illinois, graduating from Coal City High School in 2020. He continued his education at Worsham College of Mortuary Sciences, earning his Associate of Applied Science Degree in September of 2021.

Following graduation, Cole worked towards achieving his goals at becoming a licensed funeral director in Illinois at Cumberland Chapels Funeral Home in Norridge, Illinois, completing his apprenticeship in January of 2023.

Cole has been with Kuhler Funeral Home since February of 2023. He became a South Dakota licensed funeral director in September of 2023. Cole also serves as a Beadle County Deputy Coroner.

Cole likes to spend his spare time with his wife, Emmy, and their two fur kids. He also likes to go magnet fishing and building his collection for his media room.

Since moving to Huron, he has been serving the Huron community well, not just at the funeral home, but also through Noon Lions and the Feeding South Dakota program.

Cheri Bjorke

Care Coordinator

Cheri Zilverberg-Bjorke is a native of Huron, South Dakota. She graduated from Huron High School in 1989 and then continued her education at Huron University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1993.

Cheri has been with the Kuhler Funeral Home since February 2004, serving in most all aspects of the funeral service to our families. Cheri is a licensed insurance agent in South Dakota, and represents Homesteader’s Life, and the quality line of funeral funding products that they offer. She also serves as the Beadle County Coroner.

Cheri attends Grace Episcopal Church, is a member of the Redfield Chapter #19 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Windriders A.B.A.T.E., and assists with the Salvation Army Christmas Basket Program. She enjoys spending time with her family, riding motorcycles, and being outdoors when the weather allows.

Cheri’s immediate family includes her husband, Doug; their four daughters, Tori, Jessica (Andrew), Shelby and Donika; and four grandchildren, Phillip, Teagan, Tenley and Ainsley.

George Kuhler

Retired Funeral Director

George Kuhler is a native of Wakonda, South Dakota. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, and graduated from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. He worked at the Milliken Funeral Home in Mitchell and the Hanson-Anderson Mortuary in Grand Forks, North Dakota before moving to Huron in 1977. George served as president of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association from 1987-1988 and also served for a number of years on the Clergy Relations Committee of the National Funeral Directors Association. In July 1991, Governor George Mickelson appointed George to the South Dakota State Board of Funeral Service for a five-year term. George was selected by the National Institute of Justice to serve on the National Medicolegal Review Panel, a multidisciplinary group that developed national guidelines for death investigation resulting in the publication in 1997 of the research report, “National Guidelines for Death Investigation.” From January 1993 until January 2018, he served as Beadle County Coroner. George has been a certified funeral service practitioner with the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice since 1994 and is a licensed funeral director in both South Dakota and North Dakota.

After 40 years of serving the families in the Huron area, George and Deb retired on December 31, 2017. Their retirement will be filled with more time spent with their own family, especially their grandchildren.

Deborah Kuhler

Retired Counselor

Deborah Kuhler is a native of Fargo, North Dakota. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. As a licensed counselor specializing in grief and loss, she has been in private practice since 1992. She was previously employed at Community Counseling Services in Huron and also taught psychology and sociology courses for many years at Huron University.

Deb is a former member of the South Dakota House of Representatives and served on a state-wide committee in 1990 which completely revised the state mental health laws. She was appointed by Governor Walter Dale Miller to serve on the South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners and served as its president.

More recently she served on the board of directors of the advocacy organization for children, South Dakota Voices for Children, including a term as its president. Deb is certified in Thanatology by the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
