The Kuhler Funeral Home began as the Aaseth Funeral Home, which was established by Keith and Isobel Aaseth on January 1, 1947. The business was first located at 431 Third Street SW in Huron. On February 1, 1954, the Aaseths began operating from their new building, a colonial-style red brick structure at 1360 Dakota Avenue South, which was then located at the southern edge of Huron.

On January 1, 1978, George and Deborah Kuhler purchased the Aaseth Funeral Home, adding their name to the business in 1979. In that same year, the renovations were made to the building which changed the main entrance to the south instead of the west.

On June 1, 1985, the Kuhlers purchased the Brooks Memorial Chapel of Huron, which was located in what is now the Centennial Center on 4th and Kansas SE, from Ralph and Anna Marie Brooks.

In October 1986, the name of the funeral home was changed from the Aaseth Funeral Home to the Kuhler Funeral Home.

In April 2016, work began on an addition to the existing building, which expanded both south and west on the property, creating a much larger chapel and foyer, along with expanded space for a business office. The addition features a main entrance on the south and a handicapped-entrance on the east side. The previous chapel space was then remodeled into a reception room and conference room, and the previous office space was remodeled into a handicapped-accessible restroom and a children’s room. The new configuration provides more space, comfort, convenience and privacy for families.

In January 2018, a group of funeral directors, including Tim Bishop, purchased the Kuhler Funeral Home from retiring owners, George and Deb Kuhler.

Kuhler Funeral Home is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association.
