Wilbert Bertsch, age 93, of Huron, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016. His funeral service was held at 2 PM Monday, April 4th, at First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.
Wilbert Bertsch was born in Eureka, South Dakota on August 19, 1922, to Andrew and Barbara Bertsch. He was a veteran of World War II, serving at Normandy and at the Battle of the Bulge.
On January 1, 1949, Wilbert married Erna Thurn at Wishek, North Dakota. They later moved to Huron, South Dakota.
He worked at Standard Oil, Huron Tank & Culvert, and at NAPA Motor Supply in Huron until his retirement.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, as well as being a life-long member of the First Baptist Church.
Wilbert loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, watching car races and rebuilding motors.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Dennis) Fiedler, Lincoln, Nebraska; his sons, Steve (Donna Peaster and son Melvin) Bertsch of Spearfish and Brian Bertsch of Huron; a granddaughter, Kayla Bertsch; three great-grandsons, Jaeden Joyce, Zach Joyce and Easton Bertsch; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erna; four sisters; four brothers; his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
