Virginia Stunes, age 70, of Huron, died Friday, August 27, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 1st at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Virginia's wish was that each person who cared about her would bring just 1 flower to her funeral.
Virginia was born August 19, 1946, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended grades 1 through 8 at Alley School in Beadle County, 10 miles south and 1 mile west of Cavour. She then attended Iroquois High School, graduating in 1964. Virginia went on to graduate from beauty school at Seattle, Washington in 1966. She held beauty operator licenses in three states, Washington, Iowa and South Dakota.
On August 5, 1967, Virginia married Raymond McMains. In the course of their marriage, they lived in Sioux City, Iowa, Everett and Marysville, Washington, and Carthage, Mitchell and Huron, South Dakota.
Virginia worked at the Plains as a bartender/barmaid for eight years and the Red Arrow for one year. She also worked at the Huron Nursing Home as a certified nursing assistant for seven years and for Ruby Creighton at Caring Hearts for one year. Starting in August 2002, she again worked for the Huron Nursing Home this time in the laundry department.
On July 2, 1995, Virginia married Gary Stunes, they made their home in Huron.
Virginia's interests included shooting pool, bowling, golfing, camping, fishing and hunting.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brothers; nephew, Darin; niece, Amy; and grandson, Eric.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Gary Stunes of Huron; daughter, Gina McMains of Odessa, Missouri; son, Chris (Wanda) Homan of Colville, Washington; grandchildren, Nina, April and Shad; aunts, Dorothy and Helen; niece, Karen; nephews, Ken, Kurt and Linn; and many other family and friends.
