IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vicki
Shafer
May 11, 1945 – January 8, 2023
Vicki Hale Shafer was called home to Heaven on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at age 77, while residing at the Alcester Care and Rehab Center at Alcester.
Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 23, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service can be viewed here.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Vicki Ruth Hale was born to Bette Marie Hale and Harry Vern Hale on May 11, 1945, in Huron, South Dakota. She was born into a family with an older sister, Judy (Hale) Hamen and later a younger brother, Edward Eugene Hale. The family was also increased by the birth of her half-brother, Brian in 1958. She was a graduate of Huron High School. She resided in Huron most of her adult life and married Gerald Shafer in 1984.
Vicki loved her family, her church, and her family. Her mother passed away when she was only 18 months old, and the three children were raised by both her father and her paternal grandparents, Ruth and Edward Hale. Vicki loved cats although she never had one of her own. She did enjoy visiting Judy because there was generally a cat or two in residence.
When Vicki and Jerry were married, they discovered that they were only two days apart in age. She was born May 11 and he was born May 13. They were both 40 years old. They were like two peas in a pod! They were so lucky to have found each other. Jerry passed away when he was in his mid-50s but Vicki remained in Huron in an apartment until she entered the Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, South Dakota (not far from Sioux Falls) about 10 years ago.
Vicki was called home to Heaven on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at age 77. She is survived by her sister, Judy Hamen of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; her brother, Brian Hale of Huron; and many cousins and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bette and Harry Hale; her husband, Jerry Shafer; and her brother, Edward Hale.
We feel we are very blessed to have been a part of her life and to have been loved by her. We could list other attributes here but without a doubt, the one thing she would most like to be remembered for would be her unwavering faith in God. She loved the Lord with all her heart and while we will miss her, we know she is now with Jesus and totally free from the aches and pains of this world.
We look forward to the day we will be reunited with her in Heaven. It will be a glorious celebration and one we long for. We will spend an eternity together where God will wipe away every tear.
