Verna Paul, age 94, of Huron, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service was at 11 AM, Monday, January 26th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Maxted, officiating. Entombment was at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Verna Gackstetter was born February 9, 1920, to John and Erma (Derby) Gackstetter at Hendricks, Minnesota. She grew up at Revillo, Minnesota, and graduated from Hendricks, Minnesota. Verna later earned a teaching certificate and taught for several years at country schools in Minnesota.
On November 21, 1940, Verna married Marlow Willis at Hendricks, Minnesota. To this union, Kathryn was born. When Kathryn was just 18 months old, Marlow died. After Marlow's death, Verna and Kathryn moved to Huron. Verna taught at the Northwest College of Commerce for many years. Later, she worked for Northwestern Bell Company.
On July 8, 1951, Verna married Delbert M. Paul at Huron. In 1962, they moved to Onida, and in 1967, they moved to Mora, Minnesota. In 1996, the couple moved to Huron to be closer to their daughter and her family.
Verna enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. She also loved going on cruises, traveling and enjoyed cross country skiing. Verna cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Marlow in 1944 and Delbert in 2007; one sister, Velma Pederson; and two grandsons, Bradley Hanson and Bruce Hanson.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Kathryn Fox of Wolsey; one grandson, Brett (Wanda) Hanson; three granddaughters, Chantell (Bryan) Engels, JoLinda (Reece) Brown, and Jodi (Jon) Heller; ten great-grandchildren, Sheree Rupert, Jeremy Kubal, Becky Long, Brandi Hanson, Allyson Engels, Austin Engels, Lily Heller, Grahm Heller, Boston Brown, Rowan Brown; nine great great-grandchildren, Layla, Lakynn, Presley, Mikayla, Lincoln, Brecken, Jameson, Bradley, and Jacob; one granddaughter-in-law, Kim Hanson; her brother, Dean (Ardy) Gackstetter; and many nieces and nephews.
