Verna J. Gross, age 88, of Huron, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 25, at Bethesda Church, with Rev. Roy Burket and Rev. Melvin Koehn, officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Verna J. Gross was born December 18, 1926, to Jacob J.C. and Mary (Kleinsasser) Gross at Huron, South Dakota. As a child she moved with her parents to Chaseley, North Dakota. They returned to the Huron area in 1947.
Verna accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a teenager and was baptized by her uncle, the Rev. John G. Kleinsasser, at the Hope Mennonite Church at Chaseley, North Dakota.
Verna was a homemaker and enjoyed her domestic duties. According to her family, she made the best bread and buns. A loaf of bread often went home with friends or family after a visit. Friends and family also knew that Verna read her Bible faithfully.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, including her twin, Vernal and his wife, Viola Gross, Jakie and his wife, Mary Ann Gross, and Sam in infancy; two sisters, Marian Gross and Viola and her husband, Paul Kleinsasser; a niece, Beverly Wittman; and a great-niece, Ashley Aguirre.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her sister, Ruth Gross of Huron; two nephews, Perry (Beth) Gross and Ken (Brenda) Gross; and six nieces, Colleen (Carl) Aguirre, Charlene (Randy) Herringa, Sharon Otto, Iris (Johnnie) Holler, Joyce Smith, and Brenda Kleinsasser.
