Obituary

Verlyn Wipf, age 82, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the Sanford USD Medical Center, surrounded by his family. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 13th at the First United Methodist Church. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council. Burial was held at 2 PM, Tuesday, April 16,in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church Radio Broadcast or LifeServe Blood Center.
Verlyn John Wipf was born April 29, 1936, to John J.M. and Susie S. (Hofer) Wipf at their home at rural Carpenter. He attended school at Doland High School. In 1953, he transferred to Sunshine Bible Academy and graduated in 1954.
On April 29, 1963, Verlyn married Sharon Erion at Wolsey. They made their home in Huron.
Verlyn retired from the US Geological Survey after nearly 30 years of service as a computer operator. He was also retired from the South Dakota Army National Guard after 20 years of both reserve and active duty service.
He was preceded in death by his father, John J.M. Wipf; his mother, Susie S. Hofer; his two brothers-in-law, Joe P. Hofer and Ken Matehs; and his niece, Holly Sue Hofer.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Wipf of Huron; his two sons, Bryan Wipf and Darin Wipf, both of Brookings; two sisters, Delcie Hofer and Leola Maendl, both of Huron; and many other family members.
