Obituary

Velma Waldner, age 98, of Hitchcock, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, at Avantara - Huron.

Per Velma's request, there will be no services.  She will be inurned at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Hitchcock United Methodist News, P.O. Box 115, Hitchcock, SD  57348.

Velma was born February 16, 1923, on a farm near Doland, to Sam S. Wipf and Suzie Glanzer Wipf.  She attended country school near Doland.

Velma married Edward T. Waldner on March 12, 1939, at Doland.  They lived in Minnesota, Doland and Frankfort areas before moving to Hitchcock in March 1950.

She worked in the Hitchcock Café and cooked at the Hitchcock School.  Eddie passed away on June 28, 1978.  Velma later worked at the Huron Nursing Home for 20 years before her retirement.

Velma was always willing to help people, whether it was cleaning chickens or refinishing furniture.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; one son-in-law, Herb Blume; her brother, Milford Wipf; her sister, Tillie Wipf

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Blume; one son and his wife, Edward Ray and Rita Waldner; six grandchildren, Connie Bohl, Kenneth Blume, Bruce Blume, Eileen "Dode" Waldner, Jeannie Shultz and Jeff "Bunk" Waldner; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
