Vanessa R. Johnson, age 63, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at her home under hospice care, after a fight with cancer.

Her memorial service was held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 28, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Vanessa Rae Tschetter was born September 3, 1960, to Harlan and Rose (Wallman) Tschetter at Huron. She attended school and graduated from James Valley Christian School. Vanessa also attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Vanessa worked for the Dakotaland Museum and the Salvation Army for a time; but for most of her career Vanesa worked as a Home Health Care Aide for various people in the Huron community until her illness forced her to retire.

Vanessa married Henry C. Johnson on October 18, 1985, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Vanessa enjoyed watching the church services of Mt. Olivet Church in Huron and the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, near Doland, South Dakota. Vanessa possessed a caring heart and was always willing to serve and take care of others. During her illness, Vanessa showed the true definition of what it was to have the "true heart of a lion," making sure others were taken care of first.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents; grandparents; parents; and her husband, Henry.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her two daughters, Mariah (Christopher Calderon) Johnson of Denver, Colorado and Madison Johnson of Huron; her brother, Kevin (Peggy) Tschetter of Huron; her two nieces, Kayla and Mara; and several cousins.
