IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy
Schlechter
January 21, 1961 – September 26, 2024
Timothy "Tim" Phillip Schlechter, age 63, of Huron, passed away Thursday. September 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
His funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 3, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, north of Polo, South Dakota. His service will be live-streamed.
Visitation was held from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 2, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Family was present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and a prayer service was held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.
Tim was born January 21, 1961, to Corliss and Elizabeth "Betty" (Wernsmann) Schlechter. Tim attended St. Liborius Catholic grade school and Polo High School, graduating with the class of 1980.
Tim and his significant other, Betty Pelton, enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In high school, Tim had a passion for basketball. He could be found shooting hoops in front of the garage.
Tim was known for his hard work and the need to stay busy. He worked many years of road construction. After becoming ill, Tim's comment was "I need to get back to work." He didn't have time to waste when there was work to be done. He went for a walk every day. Betty said that, "it didn't matter how cold it was outside, he was walking."
Tim was a HUGE Minnesota Vikings fan. So of course, his favorite color was purple. Tim would tell you the only vehicle to drive was a FORD. He was a lifelong fan of "Vikings and Fords."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corliss (2004) and Betty (2023) Schlechter; one brother, Charles "Chuck" (2020) Schlechter; and both paternal sets of grandparents.
He is survived by his significant other, Betty Pelton; Betty's children, Troy (Spring) Metter and Tanya Metter; nine grandchildren; and his siblings, Dan (Lisa) Schlechter of Centuria, WI, Dean (Stephanie) Schlechter of Faulkton, SD, Corey Schlechter of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (Sandy) Schlechter of Pipestone, MN and Lorie (Wendell Hendrickson) Schlechter of McVille, ND; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
