Obituary

Tim Matthews, age 52, of Huron, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 9th, at St. St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Timothy Michall Matthews was born December 28, 1963, to Tom and Barbara (Lane) Matthews in Yankton, South Dakota. He received his education in Wolsey and graduated from Wolsey High School, where he excelled in sports, including football and basketball. He was particularly proud of kicking a fairly lengthy field goal to win a game against a rival. He worked as a truck driver for Dakotaland Feeds for many years, retiring in 2011 due to his health.
Tim met Bobbie Vossler at a tattoo shop in Mitchell. He and Bobbie hit it off and he therefore visited the shop often. Soon they were on great adventures together, riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and traveling to family functions together. They were married April 22, 2012, at Wolsey and made their home in Huron.
An avid gun collector, Tim enjoyed all things outdoor including hunting, fishing, camping, and riding motorcycles or his UTV. Tim spent many hours searching antique stores, auctions and old barns to find that special antique to add to his collection. He collected all things potentially useful, from trailers, tools, barn wood, car parts to cookie jars and blue glass. He volunteered with Bobbie in the Destination Imagination program, personally mentoring the young people in the program.
Tim's relationship with his children was special. Tim dedicated many evenings traveling to his children's sporting events either coaching or supporting from the stands. He was harder on his children then their own coach was; he always knew what to say. Tim loved sports and the ability to pass that love onto his children only made it that much more enjoyable. Tim's pride and joy were his children, as they were everything to him. He liked taking his family to the local area bull bashes and state fair. He could be found doing everything from playing superhero, hauling furniture, building a shed or offering a shoulder on which to cry. Whether it was 2 AM or 2 PM, Tim was always there. There was never a time he was not willing to help anyway he could. Tim also loved his grandchildren as his own. If one were to ask Tim about his grandchildren, he would tell them that they were just as close to him as his own children. Tim loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie of Huron; two sons, Derek (Megan) Matthews and Tysen Matthews; a daughter, Shelby Matthews of Huron; two stepdaughters, Lucy Wilkins of Sioux Falls and Marilynn Wolff of Huron; two grandchildren, Emma and Brenden Matthews; four brothers, Jerry (Wendy) Jungemann of Yankton, Rick (Hope) Matthews of Germany, and Joe (Tish) Matthews and Tom Matthews, all of California; his father, Tom (Sharon) Matthews of San Bernadino, California; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his stepdad, Keith Scheibe; and a stepson, Kyle Wilkins.
