Terry Gerrits, age 66, of Huron, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His visitation was held from 1 - 8 PM Wednesday, May 31st at Kuhler Funeral Home with his family present from 5 - 7 PM. There was a time of sharing at 7 PM Wednesday at Kuhler Funeral Home. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.
Terry James Gerrits was born September 24, 1950, at Madison, South Dakota to James and Maxcene (Crow) Gerrits. He grew up in Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1968.
Terry enlisted in the US Army and served three tours in Viet Nam. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, he married Janet Anderson at Canova. They made their home in Huron, where he was employed at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for nearly 40 years.
Terry was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He and his son, Trevor, formed the Gerrit Boys Barbeque team, winning many awards and were known throughout the area.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Huron; his son, Trevor (Stephanie) Gerrits of Huron; three grandsons, Logan, Evan and Dilan Gerrits; two brothers, Rich Gerrits of Santa Rosa, California and Bob (Patty) Gerrits of Apple Valley, Minnesota; one sister, Sue Elias of St. Paul, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve.
