Theodore "Ted" Salveson, age 90, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the South Ridge Health Care Center at Sioux Falls. His funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31st at Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 9th..
Theodore "Ted" Bryant Salveson was born August 9, 1927, to Theodore and Lu Marie (Bryant) Salveson at Huron. Ted graduated from Huron High School and attended Huron College. He proudly remained a Huronite all of his life.
On September 15, 1950, Ted enlisted with the United States Army at Sioux Falls. He was honorably discharged on September 17, 1952, at Camp Carson, Colorado. Ted was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He owned and operated Uncle Ted's Pawn Shop, which later expanded to online sales through Ebay. Ted was also an ordained minister, marring many couples. He owned a coin-operated machine business, traveling to many fairs and expositions in both Canada and in the United States.
On May 8, 1978, Ted married Betty Barrie-Schlotter.
Ted was a member of the Sons of Norway and enjoyed writing Norwegian cookbooks. He was also a member of the Huron Masonic Lodge, Yelduz Shrine, James Valley Shrine Club.
Ted enjoyed spending time with his family at Lake Byron. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing in the area and Canada. He loved dogs, and for many years the family always had a dog, Tom and Maxine being his favorites.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bill Schlotter; two daughters, Frances "Sissy" Lu Ann Birch and Betta Joy Muellenberg; his brother-in-law, Loyal Barrie; and his sister-in-law, Norma Place.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Salveson of Huron; one son, Theodore "Butch" Salveson of Huron; two grandchildren, Shayna (Dan) Reece of Baltic and Billy (Xanady) Schlotter of Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren, Gavin Miller, Ella Reece, Jemma Reece, Will Schlotter, Genevieve Jackson, and Felicity Schlotter; one son-in-law, Don Muellenberg; one daughter-in-law, Penny Schlotter; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Barrie of California and Marge (Bob) Noonan of Huron; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
