Susan Glanzer, age 94, of rural Huron, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 21, at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Yale. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Her service was live-streamed.
Visitation was held from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Susan Marie Hofer was born February 15, 1929, to Zack M. and Susie (Stahl) Hofer, on her parents' farm near Yale, South Dakota. Although Susan was born two months premature, she lived a long and blessed life. She attended the Johnson School through the 8th grade, then stayed home to help take care of her Grandma and younger siblings.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl and was baptized on July 29, 1945 by Rev. AK Wiens. She was an active member of the church all of her life, serving as absentee secretary, working in the baby room, and playing a part in the W.M.S. group.
On November 18, 1949, Susan married Pierre H. Glanzer at Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church. Susan and Pierre worked side by side on the family farm. They were blessed with four children, Richard, Myra, Corwyn and Curt.
Susan enjoyed a variety of crafts, including embroidery and creating plastic calendars and crosses. She followed all of her grandchildren in their activities. She loved to cook and bake, and was known for making "birthday pies."
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pierre on May 17, 1985; one sister, Genevieve (Wesley) Fast; two brothers, Delbert (Ardella) Hofer and Delano (Dorothy) Hofer.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her four children, Richard Glanzer, Myra (Robbin) Smidt, Corwyn Glanzer, and Curt (Vicki) Glanzer, all of Huron; nine grandchildren, Chad (Niki) Smidt of Vermillion, Reed (Karen) Smidt of Mendota Heights, MN, Tyson (fiancé, Jamie) Glanzer of Denver, CO, Cord (Taya) Glanzer of Carpenter, Cain (Casey) Glanzer of Carpenter, Chet (Grace) Glanzer of Huron, Cenzi (Wylee) Knudsen of Buffalo, WY, Elly Glanzer of Huron, and Dale Glanzer of Huron; and eight great-grandchildren; Tayen, Delaney, and Ashton Smidt, and Cason, Tripp, Cayden, Suzy Jo, and Cassidy Glanzer. With two more arriving in the coming months.
Susan is also survived by three sisters, Rita (d. Bob) Goehring, Barbara (Palmer) Hohm, and Margaret Maass, all of Huron; two brothers, Leonard (d. Correne) Hofer of Ohio and Paulie Hofer of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
