Susan Fuerst, age 76, of Huron, died August 17, 2015, at the SunQuest Health Care Center in Huron. Her funeral mass was celebrated at 11 AM, Friday, August 21st, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry Anderson, celebrant. Burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery at Wessington Springs.
Susan Jane Ball was born March 13, 1939, to C.W. and Esther (Burger) Ball in Woonsocket, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Woonsocket.
Susan married Gerald Fuerst on October 5, 1957. They made their home in Wessington Springs. To this union four children were born, Julie, Sandy, Mark, and Geraldine. In 1983, Susan and Jerry moved to Huron where they made their home for the next 33 years.
Susan was an outstanding cook and involved in food service positions throughout her career, including Randall's and managing and operating the West Park Cafe. Susan also took great pride in serving as a Pink Lady at the Huron Regional Medical Center for several years. By far, Susan's greatest moments were attending any activity that her children and grandchildren participated in. Susan was a "true" Tiger supporter in all sporting events.
Susan is survived by her children, Julie (Lonnie) Williams of Rapid City, Sandy Kopfmann of Huron, and Mark (Shelley) Fuerst of Wessington Springs; seven grandchildren, Kody (Samantha) Kopfmann, Abby Kopfmann, Logan (fiance, Lavin Stahl) Kopfmann, Brett (Amanda) Williams, Gerad Williams, Kandy (Doug) Flowers and Traci Orth; and seven great-grandchildren, Ella Kopfmann, Rhett Williams, Gavin Williams, Chandler Flowers, Trinity Flowers, Branden Flowers and Colby Flowers. Susan is also survived by five siblings, Joey (Kendall) Groothuis, Tom (Lynette) Ball, Jim (Mary) Ball, Bill (Cheryl) Ball, and Larry (Beverly) Ball. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Rich (Norma) Fuerst and Jim Fuerst; one sister-in-law, Harriet Fuerst; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald in 1997; daughter, Geraldine at birth; siblings, Catherine Howard, John Ball and Karen Grace; brothers-in-law, Rueben, Ervin, Laverne, Donald and Gilmore (Jeff) Fuerst, Jim Howard, Vince Grace and Ronald "Babe" Moses; and sisters-in-law, Marva Ball and Freda Fuerst.
