Obituary

Steven Joe Tschetter, age 66, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with a rare bone cancer.

A family service was held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 21st. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.

His service was live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home Facebook page.

Steve was born in Huron, South Dakota, on December 14, 1953, to Henry and Bobbi (Walter) Tschetter; he was the youngest of four children.  Steve attended Huron High School and enlisted in the US Marine Corp on his 18th birthday, awaiting his high school graduation.  He graduated in May of 1972, made a quick trip to Rapid City with friends, where he found himself stranded and on the missing list during the famous Rapid City flood.  In June 1972, he left for the Marine Corp where he established himself as a leader, soaring through the ranks to corporal which was the highest rank he could achieve in a 2 year-period.

On December 28, 1973, he was joined in marriage to the love of his life, Bev Hesse, in Huron, where they made their home and God blessed them with two sons, Travis and Justin.  Steve took pride in being a dedicated, hard worker which included various packing houses in town, last of which was Dakota Pork, where he was a department supervisor until it's closing.  For the past 17 years, he was employed at Timber Roots until his retirement in September of 2019.

Steve loved anything to do with the outdoors - from softball, motor cross, camping, and hunting, with his greatest passion fishing.  The passion he had for hunting and fishing led him to enroll in taxidermy school in 1985.  While working full time, he applied his artistic talent to taxidermy on a part time basis for the next 20 years.  Everyone who knew Steve was well aware that he liked things "squared away" and had no problem letting people know how to keep things clean and orderly.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 47 years, Bev Tschetter of Huron; their beloved sons, Travis (Tina) of Rapid City and Justin (Mandy) with grandchildren, Logan, Aliah, Kaitlyn of Rapid City; one sister, Marlis (Herb) Klaassen of Omaha NE; and brothers, Craig (Della) Tschetter of Brookings and Doug (Susie) Tschetter of Huron.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Kelsey Lee Tschetter.
