Shane Del Grosso, 50, of Huron, died Monday, May 9, 2016. His funeral service was held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 14th, at the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Code 9 Project's S.H.A.R.E. Acute Incident/Rapid Response Team, at code9project.org.
Thomas Shane Del Grosso was born February 8, 1966, to Thomas Joseph and Sharalyn (Mercier) Del Grosso at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He grew up in Pierre and graduated from T.F. Riggs High School. In 1988, Shane graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor's degree in Forestry.
On September 16, 1989, Shane married Andrea Lillis at Lambertville, New Jersey. After their marriage, they moved to Custer, South Dakota, where Shane worked at Custer State Park. They later moved to Rapid City, and then to Spearfish where he worked for the South Dakota State Division of Forestry. In 1999, the family moved to Huron, where Shane worked for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as Fire Management Specialist for Region 6, and as Deputy Incident Commander for the Rocky Mountain Blue Team, Incident Management Team. His real passion was fighting wildfires and being called to serve in recovery efforts during such emergencies as Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, and the Gulf Oil Spill.
Shane enjoyed any activity he could do with his sons, especially if it involved being outdoors. He liked to garden, golf, hunt, and go ice fishing. Shane especially enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Andrea, and two sons, Adrian and Avery, all of Huron; his mother, Sharalyn Del Grosso of Falling Waters, West Virginia; one sister, Stacey (Mark) Chaney of Falling Waters, West Virginia; one brother, Tony (Shannon) Del Grosso of Aberdeen; his mother-in-law, Patricia Lillis; father-in-law, William Lillis, Sr.; three brothers-in-law, William (Laurie) Lillis, Jr., Jason (Carin) Lillis, and Damien (Kelley) Lillis; one sister-in-law, Jeannine Hodkey; and many nieces and nephews.
