Sandra Peterson, age 48, of Huron, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2 PM, Wednesday, May 4th, at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.
On September 18, 1967, Sandra Mae Perkins was born to Jesse and Juanita Perkins at Anchorage, Alaska. Sandra's father was a member of military, as a result the family moved around the country throughout Sandra's childhood. Sandra eventually moved to Merritt Island, Florida, to live with her grandparents where she graduated from Merritt Christian Academy. She later attended college in Sioux Falls.
Sandra married Nathan Peterson on February 19, 1993. They divorced in 1995. In 1998, she moved to Huron. She then moved to Sioux Falls for a year to work at Barnes & Noble before returning to Huron. Sandra worked at McDonalds for thirteen years and most recently Fair City Foods.
Sandra was dedicated to her relationship with Jesus. This was evident through her work serving as a board member at the Wesleyan Church. Sandra was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and most recently was helping out at the Huron Church of the Open Bible. Sandra enjoyed serving on the Praise Team. She was also involved in a community bible study. Since 2009, she had worked with In Our Own Voice, was a past president and member of the Teen Council and a member of the National Alliance of Mental Illness. She had an eye for fashion and liked to shop. She was an inspiration to others and had a strong faith. She often said, "I just want to live for God!"
She is survived by two brothers, Steven Perkins of Orlando, Florida and Jessie Perkins of Irmo, South Carolina and her cat, Cuddles. Sandra is also survived and loved by many at the First Presbyterian Church, Community Counseling Services, McDonald's, Fair City Foods and Huron Church of the Open Bible.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
