Sam Hofer, age 91, of Hitchcock, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at his home near Hitchcock.
His funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 28 at the Prairie Bible Church, rural Carpenter. Burial was in the Prairie Bible Church Cemetery. His funeral service was live-streamed through the Prairie Bible Church YouTube channel.
Sam Hofer was born April 30, 1930, to Jacob S. and Mary E. (Wipf) Hofer, in Beadle County. He grew up on the family farm, working with his family. Sam also worked for a few farmers, at the Bales Sale Barn, and at Armours.
On February 22, 1952, Sam married Ruth Kleinsasser at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church (now Prairie Bible Church). Together they worked for a farmer a few years. In 1956, they started their own farming operation. They also had a dairy until September 2006. They remained living on their family farm until passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Ruth, on October 22, 2019; son, Nowell "Shorty" Hofer on June 2, 2021; six brothers, Martin, Richard, Eli, Jake, Dave and Johnny; one sister, Mary; and one grandson, Albert Connor.
Grateful for having shared in his life are two children, Lowell Hofer and Rhonda Hofer; "Shorty's" partner, Deb Connor; two sisters-in-law, Glenda Hofer and Elvina Hofer; eight grandchildren, Casper (Sara) Hofer, Toby (Becky) Hofer, Kowell Hofer, Noah (Karen) Hughes, Derrick (Megan) Hofer, Jena Hofer, Elie (Michayla) Hofer and Simon (Kristy Sorlien) Bullis; fifteen great-grandchildren, Anthony, Miles, Kynslee, Daniel, Aubrey, Micah, Addison, Mason, Addilyn, Lainie, Sam, Emily, Cassidy, Lane and Dixie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
