Ruth E. Eilers, age 91, of Huron, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 19, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the church.

Ruth Evelyn Loewe, the daughter of Richard and Pearl (Herbst) Loewe, was born on July 15, 1933, in Larchwood, Iowa. Ruth attended school and graduated from Larchwood High School in 1951. Ruth attended Augustana College and graduated from the 5-year Nursing Program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing with a RN Degree.

Ruth married Keith Eilers at Larchwood, Iowa, in September of 1958. The couple made their home in Huron, South Dakota. Ruth worked as the school nurse for Huron College for 22 years. When the college closed, Ruth began her job as the Director/Nurse for the Huron Adult Daycare Center, retiring after 25 years, in 2020.

Ruth was an active member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. She was also a member of the Coalition on Aging and Alzheimer Support Group.

Ruth enjoyed people and doing crafts. She also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, fishing and hunting. She loved vegetable and flower gardening and enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds.

Grateful for having shared in Ruth's life are her cousins, Evelyn (John) Wiedler of Howard, South Dakota, Barb Staas of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Pat (Mike) Linza of Vidalia, Michigan; her sister-in-law, Betty Lou Brandsma of Dallas, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth is also survived by her special friends, Kevin and Lynn Soward and Rose and Lee Klocke, all of Huron.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Paul Loewe in 1941; her husband, Keith in 1974; one uncle, John Herbstone; and one aunt, Kathe Auxier.
