Rueben Tschetter was born January 24, 1926, to Jacob B. and Rebecca (Wollman) Tschetter at Doland, South Dakota. He attended the Golden Rule Country School for eight years and then graduated from Doland High School in 1943.
Rueben entered the United States Army April 25, 1945. He took infantry basic training at Camp Robinson near Little Rock, Arkansas. He received his honorable discharge at Fort Meade, Maryland, in November 1946.
After his discharge, he began his farming career. Rueben farmed with his brother, Solomon, for 46 years. A dedicated farmer, he truly enjoyed his work and especially enjoyed working with cattle. He also did a lot of custom crop spraying.
On March 30, 1947, Rueben married Dolores Gross at the Ebenezer Church, rural Doland. They lived and farmed in the Doland area until they had a farm equipment sale in September 1994. They then moved to Huron in December 1995.
Rueben was a dedicated father and grandfather who took much pride in the welfare and education of his children and grandsons. Their education was important to him.
Rueben loved gospel music, and as a young boy, he learned to play the banjo, guitar, mandolin, piano, and saxophone. He sang in a men's quartet for many years while attending Ebenezer Church in rural Doland where he was baptized and became a member in August 1948. After Ebenezer Church closed, Rueben and Dolores began to attend Bethesda Church in Huron.
Rueben was also interested in the accomplishments of the young people of the community and attended many sporting events of his young friends.
He was lifetime member of the Doland American Legion and served as treasurer for Capitola Township for many years.
After moving to Huron, Rueben worked for Squeaky Clean Car Wash and then at Super Splash Car Wash, retiring in 2010. During his years at the car wash, he made many friends and always had a ready smile, a twinkle in his eye, and a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willard Tschetter and Solomon and his wife, Viola Tschetter; his sister, Florence and her husband, Rev. Paul Glanzer; and one nephew, Timothy Paul Glanzer.
