Ruby Picek, age 90, of Huron, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at home.

Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 25th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Huron, with the Rev. Tom Christenson officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Ruby Elaine Molander was born Jan. 4, 1929, at Murray, Minn., to Nels and Maude (Mattson) Molander, the fourth of five children. She was baptized March 31, 1929, at a rural Lutheran church near Balaton, Minn. She graduated from Huron High School in 1946. She worked at F & M Bank in Huron and the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis, then returned to Huron and worked at the Starlite Drive-In Theater, where she met Steve Picek Jr.. They were united in marriage on Feb. 5, 1953, at American Lutheran Church in Huron.

Ruby did the bookkeeping for the family construction business while raising a daughter and two sons. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing bridge, and golfing. Among her hobbies were painting and ceramics. She loved reading mystery novels. Ruby also enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River both at Ft Thompson and West Whitlock. She and Steve entertained many family members and friends at their West Whitlock Resort summer home, where the 10-lb. walleye she caught was displayed.

She is survived by her children, Julee (Cliff) Hadley, Larry (Beth) Picek, and Rick Picek, all of Huron; three grandsons, Ashton (Misaki) Picek, of Japan, Justin (Becky) Picek, of Huron, and Nicholas Picek, of Brookings; two granddaughters, Montana Picek, of Thailand, and Liberty Picek, of Huron; two great-grandsons, Owen and Levi Picek, both of Huron, and one great-granddaughter, Rinka Picek, of Japan; one sister, Marie Smith, of Annandale, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, in 2014; a sister, Ruth Ortbahn; and two brothers, Raynord and Ronald.
