Obituary

Rose R. Wipf, age 94, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Huron, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society at Canton.

A private family graveside service was held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family is heartbroken at the toll Covid 19 took on Rose.  A memorial service will be held at a later date for the safety of all.

Rose Wipf was the second of five daughters born to Rhinehart and Rebecca (Walter) Gross on February 13, 1926.  She passed away peacefully on November 7, 2020, at the age of 94 years.  As she grew up, she loved school and worked part-time to support her goal of finishing high school at Huron High School in 1944. That same year Rose married Clarence Wipf on June 25 1944, at Ebenezer Church.  Rose and Clarence farmed and raised their family in the Frankfort/Doland area.

Three children were born to Rose and Clarence: Jerry, Dennis and LaDonna.  When their youngest child left for college, a new opportunity came for Rose.  She was able to finish a Bachelor's degree from Huron College, which she had started many years before, and teach at the elementary level. She taught for 24 years before retiring. Rose and Clarence retired to Huron, S.D. in 1994, and made many new friends at Bethesda Church.  During retirement, Rose volunteered at the hospital, was active in her church and enjoyed reading.

After 67 years of marriage, Rose's husband, Clarence passed away in 2012.  In 2015, Rose moved to StoneyBrook Suites and enjoyed the people and activities there until a fall required a move to nursing care.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and son Dennis; her parents; one sister, Elma Bush; and an infant brother.

Rose is survived by her son, Jerry (Cynette) Wipf of Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughter, LaDonna (Larry) Francis of Hayden, Idaho; daughter-in-law. Judy Wipf (Keith Kleinsasser) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren. James Branson, Darin Wipf (Laurie), Brian Wipf (Korby), Heidi Wipf, Christine Brummond (Jim) and Rebecca McDowell (John); sixteen great grandchildren, Nolan Wipf, Zack Brummond, Ben Brummond, Mikaela Hanisch (Michael), Trevor Wipf, Morgan Wipf, Andrew Wipf, Elijah Wipf, Owen Wipf, Silas Wipf, Judah Wipf, Landon Wipf, Ivory Branson, Amelia Branson, Isabell McDowell and John McDowell; three sisters; Esther Tschetter, Vi Tschetter and Lila Lee Hofer, all of Huron, S.D.; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth McFarland of Denver, Colorado and Ida Daberkow of Lakefield, Minnesota.
