Ronald Pierson, age 69, of Yale, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain as a result of a boating accident at Ft. Thompson.

His funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. His service was live-streamed.

His visitation was held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Friday, November 8, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Ronald Wayne Pierson was born September 7, 1955, to Otis and Lucille (Escherhauser) Pierson, at Huron. He grew up in the Miller area, and graduated from Miller High School.

Ron worked at numerous jobs including selling fruit, Christmas trees, and a concession stand at the South Dakota State Fair called Papa Ron's.

On November 16, 1995, Ron married Carla Ann Decker Mendel. Together they took over his parent's greenhouse business, formerly Pierson's Greenhouse, and made it their own, calling it Ron's Greenhouse.

He was a member of the Mount Olivet Church. Ron enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. He loved watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Twins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Carla of Yale; his son, Tyler Pierson of Yale; his step-children, Shawn and Jennifer Mendel of Worthing, Ernest Mendel of Worthing, Clare and Brittany Mendel of Huron and Christina and Mike Guthrie of Huron; his grandchildren, Haley and Lane Smit, Haden Mendel, Ethan Mendel, Eli Mendel, Emmy Mendel, Braxtyn Mendel, Breelyn Mendel, Pieper Echtenkamp, Braedyn Mendel, Alissa Guthrie, Mason Guthrie and Alex Guthrie; and granddogs, Gabe and Otis.
