Roger Knight, age 82, of Huron and formerly of Fort Pierre, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral mass was celebrated at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 5th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry Anderson, celebrant. A private family burial was held at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis.
Roger Dean Knight was born May 1, 1932, to Irving and Bernice (Homewood) Knight at Chamberlain, South Dakota. He spent his early childhood in Buffalo County, attending grade school in Buffalo County and Gann Valley.
Roger attended the Brookings Agricultural High School, graduating in 1950. In 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army and was in active duty in Korea during the conflict. Roger was honorably discharged in December 1954.
On April 25, 1955, Roger married Marcia Abernathy at Immaculate Conception Church in Stephan, South Dakota. They made their home in Fort Pierre since 1960.
Roger worked as a farmhand for 17 years. He joined the Dakota Mill and Grain in 1978, where he remained for 24 years.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the VFW. Roger was an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1973 and was a Past Grand Knight.
His passion was working in his garden and his yard, taking pride in his flower gardens. There was something blooming all the time. Roger's other interests included carpentry and playing cards and games with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marcia on April 21, 2014; six brothers; and four sisters.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his five daughters, Rhonda (Doug) Kludt of Huron, Roxie Knight of Spearfish, Robin (Norm) Fenner of Rapid City, Ranelle (Jonathan) Lueth of Iowa City, Iowa, and Ranae (Gerad) Puterbaugh of Cavour; fourteen grandchildren, Rachel (Levi) Kary, Thomas Kludt, Ryan (Sara) Knight, Tate (DonDee) Underhill, Jenny (Ben) Yackley, Ryle (Erin) Fenner, Troy Fenner, Dustin Fenner, Ashley (Michael Payne) Fenner, Lydia Lueth, Griffin Lueth, Roger Puterbaugh, Henry Puterbaugh, and Ellie Puterbaugh; seven great-grandchildren, Reggie Knight, Zavier Underhill, Roran Underhill, Braden Yackley, Brooklyn Yackley, Sydny Fenner, and Peyton Fenner; two sisters, Beverly (Steven) Bailey and Dorothy (Maynard) Willman; and two brothers, James (Donna) Knight and David Knight.
