Robert Eugene Verhelst, age 70, of Huron, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023.

His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25th, at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1510 McClellan Drive, Huron. His service was live-streamed.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 24th, at Kuhler Funeral Home from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service was held at 6:30 p.m.

Robert Eugene Verhelst was born on September 1, 1953, at Huron, South Dakota, to George and Alice (Loeschke) Verhelst. He then grew up on the family's century farm, eventually working on it his entire life.

Robert was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. In his free time, he was a gun collector and enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, William Verhelst, George Verhelst, Darlene Verhelst and Phyllis Boomsma.

Grateful for having shared in Robert's life are his siblings, Edward Verhelst, Patricia (Danny) Oswald and Geraldine Verhelst, all of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
