Robert "Bob" Carroll Swartout, age 93, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at his residence. His family will have a gathering from 1 to 3 PM Monday, June 19th, at his home. Private burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Robert "Bob" Carroll Swartout was born January 19, 1924, at Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Carroll and Elsie (Hogg) Swartout. He grew up there and graduated from High School there. On June 12, 1948, he married Margery Kranhold at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Following their marriage they both attended SDSU in Brookings, graduating in 1949. They moved to Clear Lake, South Dakota, for one year and then moved to Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, for one year. In 1951, they moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota, and lived there until 1963 at which time they moved to Huron, where he resided until his death. Bob was employed by the federal government from 1950 until his retirement in 1983. Bob served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. Some of his interests were golfing, hunting and fishing. Bob was active in various bridge clubs during his retirement years. He led a vigorous retirement and lived independently until his death.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill and his wife, Margery on July 26, 1994.Survivors include his three sons, Richard "Rick" and his wife Ruth Swartout of Mitchell, Steven and his wife Fauziah Swartout of Omaha, Nebraska and Douglas Swartout of Anchorage, Alaska.
