Robert John “Bob” Butler passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2026, surrounded by family.

Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Thursday, June 25, at Mount Olivet Church, with a celebration of life to follow at 6:00 PM. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Robert John Butler was born to John and Leota (Sommers) Butler on November 15, 1953, in Huron. He grew up there, graduating from Huron High School in 1972. Bob married Janelle Wipf, on October 7, 2000. They were blessed to share 25 years together.

Bob lived a life full of adventure and determination. If something could be fixed, rebuilt or made to last a little longer, Bob would find a way. Bob never shied away from a challenge. He rode bulls – and won! He enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, golfing and building race cars.

Of all the things Bob enjoyed, some of his happiest times were spent camping with his beloved wife, Janelle. Together they shared many adventures, creating memories with family and friends that will be treasured for years to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leota.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Janelle Butler of Huron; his son, Justin (Kristi) Butler; and his grandchildren, Boston and Eastyn Butler, all of Watertown.

He is also survived by his brother, Gary Butler of Fort Pierre; his step-children, Christi (David) Pascual of Marietta, California, Lisa (Steve) Johnson of Huron, Heidi Waldner of Watertown, Jason (Dawn) Keelin of Huron, Jeremy Keelin of Huron and Richard (Flor) Erickson of Huron; fifteen step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Bob’s family extends it’s heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare teams who cared for Bob with compassion, dignity and kindness.

We are also deeply thankful for our church family, relatives and friends for their prayers, love, support and acts of kindness during this difficult time.

Your encouragement and presence have been a great source of comfort and strength, and we will always be grateful.
