Robert M. Burckhartzmeyer, age 75, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Ava's House at Sioux Falls, with his family by his side.

His memorial service was held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, April 9, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council. His service was live-streamed.

His visitation was held from 1:00 to 6:30 PM, Monday, April 8, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. A prayer service was held at 6:30 PM Monday evening.

Robert M. Burckhartzmeyer was born May 14, 1948, to Michael and Erma (Lahr) Burckhartzmeyer at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Bob served in the United States Navy from October 1967 to October 1969, and then was honorably discharged.

On July 11, 1970, Bob married Darlene Ann Heil at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, South Dakota. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Ronald James Burckhartzmeyer and Brian Robert Burckhartzmeyer.

Bob was employed for several years with Telelect Manufacturing. During that time, Bob and Darlene also owned and operated B & D Pizza/Corner Deli restaurant for 10 years. Over the years, Bob held several other jobs in and around the Huron community.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Canadian Goose hunting with his two sons was his favorite. Bob also enjoyed watching his grandsons play football and his granddaughter play basketball. He was looking forward to watching his youngest granddaughter start her volleyball career. Bob was so proud of all his grandchildren. Bob's grandchildren frequently expressed they loved his sense of humor which contributed to him frequently being called the "best" Gpa!

Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene of Huron; his sons, Ron (Paula) Burckhartzmeyer of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Brian (Susan) Burckhartzmeyer of Orient; four grandchildren, Trevor, Nate, Gracelynn and Kaitlyn; five sisters, Donna Bain of Sioux Falls, Marjorie White of Sioux Falls, Marilyn Coyle of Aberdeen, Shirley (Robert) Jacobs of Aberdeen and Betty (Jim) Oliver of Groton; one brother, Jerry (Cheri) Burckhartzmeyer of Edwards, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Kenneth (Toni) Heil of Mobridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Michael Burckhartzmeyer; his mother, Erma (Lahr) Burckhartzmeyer; one sister, Angela Burgard; three brothers-in-law, Robert Coyle, Art White and Arnie Bain; his in-laws, Frank and Frances Heil; three brothers-in-law, Ronald Heil, Dennis Heil and Gerald Heil; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Heil.
