Obituary

Rita M. Hunt, age 75, of Huron, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at Avantara–Huron.

Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Maplewood Cemetery, Iroquois.

Visitation with family present was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Rita Marie Lynch was born August 11, 1950, to James and Retha (Scheid) Lynch in Huron, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Iroquois and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1968.

On January 24, 1970, Rita married Edwin Wollman. After living in several communities, they made their home in Huron. Rita worked for a time as a cook at The Plains and later at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield, where she served for more than 20 years.

On June 11, 1988, Rita married Robert Hunt. After several years of commuting between Huron and Redfield for work, Rita and Robert relocated to Frankfort, South Dakota, where they became active members of the Frankfort Birthday Club and enjoyed being part of the close-knit community. In later years, they returned to Huron, where Rita worked as a desk clerk at the Best Western.

No matter where Rita lived, she was active in her local Catholic church, whether at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Iroquois or Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. She was devoted to her daughter and enjoyed helping with activities involving her daughter and her friends. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was always willing to drive the girls wherever they needed to go, including concerts in Sioux Falls.

Rita enjoyed cooking and had an extensive collection of cookbooks. She also loved sewing and reading. Above all, she cherished time spent with family and friends and especially enjoyed attending the many extracurricular activities of her grandchildren, niece, and nephews.

While residing at Wellshire Assisted Living Community in Huron, Rita enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her son, Bradley Wollman; and her brother, William Lynch.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Tami (Joe) Steichen of Saint Michael, MN; her granddaughters, Mackenzi Steichen of Astoria, NY, and Reagan Steichen of Anoka, MN; her grandson, Joseph Steichen of St. Cloud, MN; her brother, James (Sandy) Lynch of Iroquois; her niece, Emily (Josh) Haggar of Sioux Falls; her nephews, Brian (Zoe) Lynch of Rogers, MN, Jeffrey (Maggie) Lynch of Apple Valley, MN, and Douglas (Liz) Lynch of Sioux Falls; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
