Richard J. Davis, 87, of Aberdeen, SD, and formerly of Huron and Redfield, South Dakota, passed away April 20, 2022, at the Bethesda Nursing Home at Aberdeen.
His prayer service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 23rd at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Huron. His prayer service was live-streamed through the church's website.
A private graveside service was held in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Aberdeen Bethesda Foundation, 1224 S. High St., Aberdeen SD 57401.
Richard was born November 10, 1934, in Hibbing, Minnesota, to Arthur and Pearl (Mitchell) Davis. He graduated from high school in 1952 in Chisholm, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 – 1955.
On June 18, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey J. Bremer, in Hibbing. The couple moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota, where Richard attended the North Dakota College of Science, graduating in 1958. Upon graduation, Richard accepted a position with Northwestern Public Service (NWPS) in Redfield, South Dakota, where Richard and Audrey raised their family. They moved to Huron, South Dakota, in 1974, where Richard continued working for NWPS until his retirement in 1996. Richard and Audrey were members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron.
Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and many friends. He and Audrey traveled across the United States and to several European countries.
Richard is survived by his wife, Audrey; their children, Wendy (Chuck) Gugel of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Kate (John) Kelley of Spearfish, South Dakota; and Richard (Debbie) Davis of Yankton, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Dekoski of Ruth, MI; Justin (Courtney) Deer of Minneapolis, MN; Robert (Erika) Kelley of Portland, OR; Megan (Mike) Zilberstein of Highland Park, IL; and Andrew (Michelle) Kelley of Clinton, IA; and 10 beloved great grandchildren, Landon and Jacob Dekoski, Max and Zosia Deer, Lauren and Claire Zilberstein, Camille and Duncan Kelley, and Owen and Dexter Kelley.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert Davis, and sister Phyllis (Clarence) Meinen.
