Reggie Roy, age 38, of Cavour, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018, at his home due to complications from diabetes. A celebration of Reggie's life was held at 5:30 PM, Friday, December 21, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Reggie Alexander Roy was born January 14, 1980, to Carol Roy and Matthew Peck at Bismarck, North Dakota. Raised by his grandmother, Joyce Roy, Reggie grew up in Huron and attended Huron High School. Later in life, he spent many years living with and learning from his uncle, Richard Roy.
Throughout the years, Reggie worked as a floor technician for Service Master, a welder for Overbuilt, was later employed at Dakota Provisions and with an independent contractor as a mail carrier.
On August 12, 2007, Reggie married Amy VanOverschelde at Huron. From this union they had one son, Alex. The couple later divorced in October 2010.
Reggie spent many hours on the open road while on his motorcycle. He looked forward to the annual Roy Boy Run through the Black Hills. Reggie could be found creating new contraptions to make tasks more efficient. He taught himself how to play the guitar, and played it rather well. He enjoyed playing cards and video games with friends, reading, writing stories and poems and spending time with his dog, Maully. Most of all, he loved his son.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his son, Alex and Alex's mother, Amy Roy of Huron; his mother, Carol (Tom) Gietzen of Huron; his father, Matthew Peck of Sioux Falls; his step-brother, Ben (Abby) Gietzen of Watertown; his step-sister, Kristin (Corey) Haisch of Alcester; four uncles, Richard Roy of Cavour, Ron (Laurie) Roy of Huron, Dennis (Jodie) Roy of Castlewood, and Duane (Leanne) Roy of Huron; four aunts, Cheryl Wheeler of Sioux Falls, Kathy Watson of Bismarck, North Dakota, Alexis (John) McEnelly of Huron and Beth (Greg) Wilcox of Sioux Falls, his cousins, Shane (Pat) Roy, Mathew Roy, Mike Roy, Brett Wheeler and Bryan Wheeler, all of Sioux Falls, Denise Watson, Jay Watson, Kim (Darren) Hertz, Bob Watson and Patrick Watson, all of Bismarck, North Dakota, Casey McEnelly of Falls Church, Virginia, Sean McEnelly of Sioux Falls, Aubrey (Eric) Virakone of Bristow, Virginia, Megan Garcia of Huron, Lindsey Roy of Fargo, North Dakota, Braden Roy of Huron, Cody Wilcox of Sioux Falls,Dan (Robyn) Roy of Brandon, David (Jackie) Roy and Dee (Jason Swindler) Roy, both of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alexander and Joyce Roy; and two uncles-in-law, Ray Wheeler and Dennis Watson.
