Randall W. Lampe, age 91, of Huron, died Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Masonic rites and memorial service were held at 5 PM, Thursday, January 29th, at Grace Episcopal Church. Burial of his cremated remains will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation, Huron Adult Day Care Center, or the charity of the donor's choice.
Randall Wilson Lampe was born May 20, 1923, in Huron, to Karl William and Cora Belle Peck Lampe. He grew up in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1941. Randall enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1941 and served until July 1947. He graduated from the US Navy School of Music in Washington, DC in May 1942.
Randall married Jeanne E. Dahlstrom at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on February 11, 1945. Following his discharge from the Navy, Randall and Jeanne returned to Huron where Randall was employed as the department manager at Lampe Market until 1951. He was also employed as a sales manager at Brown Printing in Huron and as the executive secretary of the Episcopal Diocese of South Dakota. After serving as the general manager of Ruby Ann Bake Shops for five years, Randall began employment as president and director of Management, Inc., a position which he held until his retirement in 2007.
Randall had served as a director of PRC, Inc., and as a director and vice president of First Western Bancorp in Huron. He was a past director of First Western Banks in Atkinson, Nebraska, and Wall, Custer, Sturgis, and Rapid City. He was a founding member of the Huron Adult Care Center board of directors and had served as its chairman. He was also past chairman of the Huron Regional Medical Center board of directors, the Huron Coalition of Aging, the Huron Community Concert Association, and a past member of the United Way of Huron executive committee. He had been an active member of the Huron Kiwanis Club since becoming a member in 1947, and had served as president and treasurer, in addition to serving as a member of the International Kiwanis Key Club Committee. He was a life member of Huron Area Senior Center and both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Masonic Bodies of Huron.
Randall loved music. In addition to his service as a musician in the US Navy, he performed with the Huron Municipal Band and had served as its treasurer for many years. Randall also was a member of the El Riad Shrine Band in Sioux Falls and the Augustana Community Band in Sioux Falls and performed in numerous other small groups throughout the years.
Randall was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Lampe Hammerquist.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Jeanne of Huron; two children, Sandra (Jerry) Dratler of San Francisco, California and Karl (Rene) Lampe of Rancho Bernardo, California; two grandchildren, Jennifer (J.J.) Strain of McKinney, Texas and Nathan Lampe of San Francisco; three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Landen and Ryland Strain; and many loving nieces and nephews.
