Rance Perleberg, age 88, of Huron, passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, with his family by his side at Avantara – Huron.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 9, at the American Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Beadle County Veteran’s Council.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Rance Curtis Perleberg was born September 19, 1937, to Lester and Florence (Beauteow) Perleberg, at Pasadena, California. He spent his youth in New Ulm, Minnesota. The family moved to South Dakota in 1953. Rance graduated from Huron High School in May of 1955.
On June 16, 1955, Rance joined the United States Navy, and proudly serves his country until his honorably discharged on September 16, 1958. He was an electrician’s mate on a L.S.T. Ship and traveled to Japan and the Philippines. Rance would often share his experience of going through a hurricane while in the military.
On August 17, 1957, Rance married the love of his life, Lois Jean Bloodgood at Bancroft. They were married for 68 years.
Rance worked as a journeyman electrician for many years and the last several decades for Ferguson Electric.
Rance and Lois adopted two children, Juletta and Mark in the early 1960s. They were active members of the American Lutheran Church; always helping out where needed whether it was delivering meals on wheels, ushering or singing in the choir.
They loved to square dance in their younger years with the Belles and Beaus and took several bus trips to all 50 states. As they got older, Rance and Lois spent a lot of their time at the Huron Area Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Florence; his sister, Tammy Anderson; and his son, Mark Perleberg on July 15, 2023.
Rance is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lois Perleberg of Huron; his daughter, Juletta Bradley and her husband, Mike Bradley of Huron; his grandchildren, Dustin Bradley, Dawn Lems and her husband, Casey, Jeff Perleberg and his wife, Chasity and Greg Perleberg and his fiancé, Jillian; his step-granddaughter, Michele Steele; his great-grandchildren, Raya Bradley, Hannah, Ian and Jonah Lems, Dakota Steele and Devon, Charlie and Iesha; and three great-great-grandchildren.
