Ramona was born on August 31, 1936, in Huron, South Dakota, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Mary Decker. She was the oldest of two daughters, growing up with her sister, Nadean.
She married her husband, Everett E. Kleinsasser, on December 20, 1954. They spent their 68 years together in Huron, raising their three children, serving at their church, and establishing a supportive community around them.
Ramona graduated from the Huron schools, Huron College, and received a Master's Degree in Education and Special Education at Northern State College. She earned hours toward her doctorate from the University of South Dakota and Colorado State. "Mrs. K." was passionate about the education and development of young students. She was a special education teacher at Huron Junior High School for 5 years and at Huron High School for 19 years. Ramona received the Teacher of the Year award in May 1997 and resigned the same year after teaching 24 years in Special Education. Even after retirement, she never stopped studying as she was an avid reader and loved to learn.
Ramona accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 8 and was baptized as a young adult. She was a member of Living Hope Alliance Church. Her servant heart led her to teaching Sunday School, Bible study groups, Kids Clubs, and was a Sunday School Superintendent. She was a prayer warrior for many.
For those who knew Ramona, she was one to celebrate others well. When Ramona and Everett were gifted with guests, she blessed them by ensuring they were well fed with delicious meals, abundant snacks and sweet treats. She never failed to send her friends and family words of encouragement through cards for many special occasions, which often included a touch of confetti! Ramona's written words and promised prayers are something to always be cherished.
