Obituary

Peter Vincent Wuestewald, age 93, of Wessington, passed away at home, Tuesday, January 29, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday February 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wessington. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's CatholicCemetery at a later date. Military honors were conducted by the Watson-Krauter Legion Post #110 of Wessington.
Peter Vincent Wuestewald was born on February 22, 1925, in Bow Valley, Nebraska to Anton and Anna (Hege) Wuestewald. Peter attended country school at Sand Creek, South Dakota through his junior year.
Peter served in WWII in Japan 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. After being discharged from the service he started farming with his dad in Wessington.
He was an avid baseball player in Wessington, Wessington Springs, and Alpena. He also enjoyed watching his children and many grandchildren in their various sports.
On September 9, 1952, Peter married Edna Mae Berntsen at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington Springs. After they married, they moved southwest of Wessington Springs until 1957, when they moved to the home farm in Wessington. Peter then started working at Armour and Company in Huron, South Dakota, for 26 years and continued farming until 1990.
Peter was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington and the Watson-Krauter Legion Post #110 in Wessington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; three brothers; five sisters; three nephews; and three nieces.
Peter is survived by his wife, Edna Mae; eight children Jeffery (Sharon) Wuestewald of Wolsey, South Dakota, Michael Wuestewald of Wessington, South Dakota, JoAnn (Dan) Heasley of Elk River, Minnesota, Patricia (Bob) Garrett of Hebron, Illinois, Anthony (Lois) Wuestewald of Rapid City, South Dakota, Karleen (Jasen Stotz) Wuestewald of Brookings, South Dakota, James (Luanne) Wuestewald of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Tom (Laurie) Wuestewald of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; fifteen grandchildren, Andrew Wuestewald, Angela (Dustin) Zemlicka, Nathan Wuestewald, Zachary (Charlotte) Wuestewald, Erik (Cassie) Wuestewald, Joe Heasley, Ryan (Jill) Heasley, Charles Wuestewald, Catherine Wuestewald, Meghan (Brandon Karels) Doescher, Abby (Levi Moulton) Egeberg, Emily Wuestewald, Matthew Wuestewald, Brianna (Austin) Waldron, Brooklyn Wuestewald; fifteen great-grandchildren, Cortney Wuestewald, Zane Wuestewald, Christian Wuestewald, Tanner Zemlicka, Logan Zemlicka, Lylah Wuestewald, Tate Heasley, Finn Heasley, Nolan Heasley, Oliver Heasley, Myles Heasley, Trey Svennes, Tyson Antonen, Elliott Karels and Ava Waldron; step great-grandchildren, Tyra Camilletti, Keyen Camilletti, Kaden Blake, Madison Paysen, Taylor Paysen and Bella Gill; one great-great-granddaughter, Alyssa Wuestewald; one step great-great-grandson, Grayson Wheat; and many nieces and nephews.
