Paul Mavity, age 77, of Huron, died Monday, April 4, 2016, at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service was held at 2 PM, Friday, April 8th at the Riverview United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Paul George Mavity was born February 21, 1939, in Hammond, Indiana, to Paul E. and Ruth M. (McKinley) Mavity. He attended Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Indiana graduating in 1957. He later attended Angola, Ball State, and Indiana Universities. On June 5, 1960, Paul married Patricia A Cowger in Monticello, Indiana.
He began his career at Guardian Loan before leaving to work at Levell and Bates. He was then employed for 13 years at First Federal Savings and Loan in Lafayette, Indiana, before moving to Huron, South Dakota. While living in Indiana, he also had a family farm raising crops and hogs.
After moving to Huron, Paul achieved his goal of becoming President and Chief Executive Officer at First Federal Savings and Loan. In 1991, he accepted a position with Huron Greater Development as executive director. In 1993, he went on to become the business manager at Tschetter Hohm Clinic until his retirement in 2009. Paul was also a photographer for many years capturing weddings, sports, and senior pictures.
Paul was committed to his community, by participating and serving in many capacities for many clubs and committees. He was also an active member of Riverview United Methodist Church.
During their union of nearly 56 years Paul and Patsy were blessed with a son, Steven and his wife, Linda and grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Sara, all of Munster, Indiana. They also were blessed with a daughter, Jacqueline of Huron and her husband, Toby Bartel of Yale and grandchildren, Branden and Mallory (Guy Earley) of Huron. Paul cherished time with his great grandchildren, Dontaevian and Denaesia Aldridge and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of great grandchild #3 in August.
Also grateful for having shared in his life are his sister, Nancy (Pete) McIntosh of Woodbine, Maryland and three nephews, Jamie, Eric and Carey McIntosh, all of Maryland.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Branden Bartel of Yale.
