Obituary

Pansy W. Gross, age 92, of Huron, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019, at her home. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 4th the Mount Olivet Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pansy was born February 6, 1927, to Jacob S. and Mary E. (Hofer) Glanzer at Carpenter, South Dakota.  Pansy grew up in the Carpenter area and attended rural school there. She continued her education at Doland High School.

On June 22, 1944, Pansy married George G. Gross at the Gross family farm. They made their home and worked together on their farm. After retirement and the couple moved to Huron, Pansy did housekeeping, worked at Orange Julius and was a home aide provider.

She was very active in her churches. Pansy was baptized at Emmanuel Mennonite Church near Doland on January 9, 1949.  She was part of the Ladies Aide, Church Choirs and sang with several Ladies Trio groups. Pansy, along with her sisters, Beulah and Doris, sang three-part harmony as children, with their guitars, mandolin and banjo at many churches and community activities. When her health kept her from attending church, Pansy would enjoy listening to the Christian Worship Hour in the comforts of her home.

Pansy enjoyed taking many bus tours with George, until he passed away on December 28, 1987.

Pansy cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She liked to cook, bake and sew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Denton; one sister, Violet Glanzer in infancy; two brothers, LaVerne Glanzer in infancy and Dennis Glanzer; two nieces; four nephews; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Peter W. Tschetter and Orville Koschel; and a grandson-in-law, Allen Patrick.

Grateful for having shared in her life are two children, Dean Gross of Huron and Devon Edwards of Huron; one daughter-in-law, Judith Gross; four grandchildren, Thad Gross, Nicole Patrick, Jason Gross and Stacie (Brent) Volesky; two step-grandchildren, Amy (Mitch) Svihovec and Scott Gildemaster; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Patrick, Dillon Patrick, Tia Gross (Nathan Klusman), Hanah (Caleb) Williams, Griffin Gross, Grayson Gross, and Jared Volesky; three step-great-grandchildren, McKenzie Opitz, Hayden Opitz and Connor Opitz; three great great-grandchildren, Cadence Klusman, Cooper Klusman, and Phoenix Williams; two sisters, Beulah Tschetter of Mountain Lake, Minnesota and Doris (Gilbert) Koschel of Loveland, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
