Norma Hohm, age 76, of rural Huron, died Friday, April 15, 2016, at her home. Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 20th at Bethel Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Norma F. Waugh was born at Chamberlain to Francis and Helera (Melchert) Waugh on August 28, 1939. She grew up at Chamberlain and received her education in the Chamberlain Schools. Norma worked at the Rainbow Café in Chamberlain for a number of years.
On August 28, 1965, she married Alvin Schnathorst Jr. Following their marriage they lived in Pierre, where she was a stay at home mom.In 1979, they moved to Huron. Following the death of Alvin on July 20, 2001, she went to work in the food service with the Huron School System.
On July 28, 2007, she married Phil Hohm at the Grace Episcopal Church in Huron. They made their home on the farm near Lake Byron. Norma was a member of the Bethel Church, rural Yale, South Dakota, ABATE, and the Christian Motorcyclists Association. She enjoyed motorcycling with her husband.She loved to travel and enjoyed cooking and spending time with family.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim and Darrell Waugh; one sister, Beverly Waugh, and her first husband, Alvin Schnathorst Jr.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Phil; children, Sheldon (Sandy) Schnathorst of Waterloo, Iowa, Frank (Korey Busack) Carlson of Sioux Falls, Bryan (Jennifer) Schnathorst of Miller, Robert "Bob" (Michelle) Carlson of Huron, Karla Durnil of Union, Iowa, Schaun (Shelley) Schnathorst of Huron, Alvin "Skip" (Bobbi Jo) Schnathorst of Huron, Mindy Engelmann of Rapid City, Schalane (David) Bucklin of Huron and Amy (Jeff) Kempf of Huron; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Waugh of Chamberlain; and lots of nieces and nephews.
