Norma Denison, age 92, of Huron, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service for Norma was held at 1 PM, Wednesday, January 27, in the Riverside Cemetery, which was  live-streamed  .

Norma Jean (Bonesteel) Denison was born November 19, 1928, to John "Jack* Bonesteel and Thelma (Prose) Bonesteel in Huron, South Dakota.  Her family moved to St. Louis for a while when Norma was a young girl and she cherished memories of riding the streetcar downtown with her mother, grandmother, and aunt.  She graduated from Huron High School and Huron College.

Norma married Gene Denison on June 10, 1951. They enjoyed a short time together prior to Gene's tour of duty in Korea.  Norma taught in Huron for two years waiting for his Gene's return.

On Gene's return home, Norma went to Vermillion where she taught school while he completed his Masters Degree in Political Science. Following their time in Vermillion, they returned home to Huron where Norma continued teaching; impacting many students through education.

Norma balanced her love of teaching and her family.  She took a hiatus from teaching when Jeff was born and returned to teaching when Matt entered school.  Friends were always welcome and greeted with brownies and cookies.

Norma's hobbies included sewing, painting, crafts and coffee with friends. She was actively involved in her church and community. She loved going for car rides to see how the town was growing and changing. She enjoyed having visitors (especially ones bringing treats) and talking on the phone with friends and family.

The Governor declared Norma Denison Day in honor of her retirement.  She enjoyed her retirement to the fullest.

Norma is survived by her two sons, Matt and Jeff; a granddaughter, Katy; a sister, Joan (Tom); nieces and nephews and her cousin Barb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents; and Jeff's wife, Susan.
