Obituary

Murray Serfling, age 68, of Huron, passed away suddenly from a work accident, on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 11 AM Thursday, November 2nd at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Burial wasin the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Beadle County Humane Society, or James Valley Christian School.
Murray was born on February 15, 1949, to Earl and Anne (Claassen) Serfling, at a home near De Smet, South Dakota. He attended country school and graduated from De Smet High School in 1967. Murray was active in 4-H, FFA, and most anything related to farming and animals.
For 6 years Murray was in the South Dakota National Guard, and provided aid during the Rapid City flood.
On November 17, 1973, Murray married his true love, Janet Skrogstad, at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota. He was a kind hearted, devoted and loving husband and father.
In 1971 Murray started working at the company which he now owns, and had since renamed to Easi-Pour. Murray was a self-taught engineer and welder who truly enjoyed his career, and had many projects planned. Whether metal or wood, there was not much he couldn't design and build. Although he did not have much free time, Murray enjoyed spending time with family, watching old westerns, working on projects around his farm, riding horses, and cat naps on the couch with his cats and dog. Murray was a lifelong farmer who couldn't pass up a lemonade stand. And no matter how busy he was, Murray would drop what he was doing to spend time with his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Murray is survived by his children, Megan Serfling, Holly (Darric) O'Brian, and Greg Serfling, all of Huron; his beloved grandchildren, Wyatt, Sofia, and Maddigan. He is also survived by his siblings, Erlyn (James) Hagen of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Lee (Rhonda Wallum) Serfling of De Smet, Lowell (Renae) Serfling of Sherwood, Oregon, Alan (Janice) Serfling of Madison, Marcia (Bob) Salayi of Rochester, Minnesota, Joan (Tom Gilsrud) Serfling of Pierre, and Janelle (John) Dinges of Madison; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Murray was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister-in-law, aunts, and uncles.
