Mildred Schill, age 89, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Avantara – Huron.
Her funeral service was held at 6:30 PM, Monday, November 16th, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Her service was live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home Facebook page.
Her graveside service was held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 17th in the West Sinai Cemetery at Sinai.
Mildred Engelsgaard Schill was born in Arlington, South Dakota, January 10, 1931, to Erik and Julia Engelsgaard.
Mildred attended grade school at District 21 near Sinai and graduated from Sinai High School in May of 1948. She enrolled in Bartron Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, South Dakota, in 1951. She earned a degree as a Registered Nurse in 1953. Mildred worked in the Volga hospital prior to marrying Raymond Schill on April 8, 1955, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, South Dakota.
Her husband's jobs as a teacher, counselor and administrator, took them to several places in North and South Dakota and Nebraska, including Watertown, Linton, Ramona, Stewart, Bradley, Hosmer, Pollock and finally Wolsey. Mildred worked as a nurse in many hospitals in these areas including Volga, Linton, Estelline, Madison, Atkinson, Webster, Bowdle and Mobridge.
Her husband, Raymond, passed away from cancer on August 22, 1982. She married Clifford Bloss on September 20, 1986, in Huron South Dakota. Clifford was a truck driver, so they traveled the country on a flatbed and frequently stopped by her nephew's houses along the way. At one time, they lived in Wisconsin. She divorced Clifford on April 13, 1995.
In the fall of 1998, Mildred sold her mobile home in Wolsey and moved to Huron where she did respite care until retiring in 2002.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, LCW Circle, Sons of Norway, Opdalslag, and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing and more importantly spending time with family, especially her nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond; second husband, Clifford; her parents, Erik and Julia; and her youngest brother, Glen.
She is survived by two brothers, Arley of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Duane (Rosie) of Antelope, California; two sisters, Lorraine of Santa Paula, California, and Evelith Kuecker of Kearney, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Charlene of Visalia, California; as well numerous nephews and nieces.
