Michael Unruh, age 70, of Iroquois, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls.

His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 10th, at the Prairie Haven Mennonite Church. Burial followed in the Faith Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Wednesday, February 9th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home and then was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Prairie Haven Mennonite Church, 101 E. Sullivan Street, Iroquois, SD.

My dear husband, our father, and grandpa, Michael James Unruh, was born May 18, 1951, to Sylvester and Joan (Becker) Unruh at Moundridge, Kansas. He slipped away quietly on February 5, 2022, reaching the age of 70 years.

As a young man, he was baptized into the church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 15, 1964, at Iroquois, South Dakota, by Min. Milferd Wenger.

On January 20, 1974, he was united in marriage to me, Elizabeth Unruh, at Scott City, Kansas. God blessed our home with six children during our 48 years together. Dad delighted to introduce our mom as "Queen Elizabeth."

Together we faced the challenges of farming until 2002. Then he turned his focus to the trucking industry. He enjoyed the freedom of the open road and the many friendships he made. We cherish the many phone conversations we had while he was on the road.

We, as a family, have many fond memories of Dad taking care of us. He had a generous heart and often bought two of everything to make sure we had enough. He loved to lend a hand to friends and neighbors, stopping by to mow their yards.

A very special time for us was Christmas 2020, when we were all able to be together. Those left to cherish fond memories are his beloved wife, Elizabeth; five children, Tim (Starla) Unruh of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, Michalle (Arden) Unruh of Iroquois, South Dakota, Daniel (Rachelle) Unruh of Glenn, California, Mary (Kendall) Smith of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and Grace (Tim) Koehn of Leland, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Daniel, Marco, Alivia, J'Den, Braden and Lauren; two sisters, Nova (Darrel) Yost of Arthur, Illinois and Barbara (Robert) Ensz of Othello, Washington; one brother, Patrick (Connie) Unruh of Bancroft, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are one infant son, Jonathon; his parents, Sylvester and Joan Unruh; and his parents-in-law, Harry and Iva Unruh.
