Michael Kalahar, age 85, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Avantara – Huron.

His graveside was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 22, at the St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery.

Michael John Kalahar was born May 30, 1940, to Marion and Veronica (Doherty) Kalahar at Larchwood, Iowa. He attended St. Theresa Catholic School at Huron and Huron High School graduating in 1958. Michael joined the South Dakota National Guard on March 31, 1957, and was honorably discharged May 1967.

On October 27, 1958, Michael married Judy Kay Quiram at St. Martin's Catholic Church at Huron.

Michael worked as a farmhand, checker at Ed & Eb's, grocery butcher, painter, Mattke Brothers, Safeway, Paul Eichstadt farm, Armour Foods from 1968 to 1969 and again from 1971 to 1983, Stillson Plastering, and the Huron Regional Medical Center. He also sold Fuller Brush for one year in Rapid City and sold biker t-shirts at bike events in South Dakota, North Dakota and Iowa from 1982 to 1996.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the Windriders ABATE for twenty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy in 2023; two sons, Michael in 1963 and Jeffrey in 2019; and one daughter, Christine Hanten in 2023; and granddaughter, Katrina White in 2022.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two daughters, Kathleen and Dan Weinstein of Orleans, Iowa and Sheryl and Bob Blue of Iroquois; six grandchildren, Sean Larson, Michael Moilan, Nichole Blue, Abbigale Cline, Laci Huls, and Kayce Kalahar; and seven great-grandchildren.
