Michael F. Ball, age 82, of Huron, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, under hospice care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Michael F. Ball was born August 22, 1944, to Walter and Ruth Ball, in Chino, California. Later the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota and then to Huron, South Dakota. Mike’s father owned and operated the Huron Airport FBO, where Mike learned to fly, thus starting his flying career.

Mike started his career flying spray planes and ended his career flying corporate. He logged 34,000+ hours in his career, as in his early flying days hours were not recorded. Mike flew five years for two South Dakota Governors and then 20 years for Northwestern Energy. He served on the board of South Dakota Aeronautics for several years.

Mike married Linda Sporrer, and together raised their three children, Shawn, Scott and Shane. In their retirement years, Mike and Linda wintered in Arizona where they enjoyed many activities and met friends who are like family. Mike enjoyed taking motorcycle rides and jeep adventures. He golfed because Linda liked to golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bill.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda; and three children, Shawn and Matt Johnson, Scott and Becky Ball and Shane and Alyssa Ball. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
