Melnor Tschetter, age 74, of Huron, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 10th, at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Charles Howard officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Melnor Tschetter was born on November 19, 1940, to John J.L. and Adina A. (Walter) Tschetter in Huron. He grew up in the Carpenter area on the family farm. He attended country school through 8th grade and then graduated from Huron High School in 1959. After graduation, Melnor worked for Valet Cleaners.
On May 2, 1962, Melnor married Carol A. Urban at the First Assembly of God Church in Huron. In 1966, he was employed with Mick's Milling where he received his training as a Livestock Specialist through Purina. In 1985, Melnor began working for South Dakota Wheat Growers (Farmland). Later, Dakotaland Feeds took over the feed department from SDWG. He retired from Dakotaland Feeds on November 30, 2002, due to health reasons.
Melnor attended the First Assembly of God Church for many years where he served as head usher, trustee and enjoyed working with the young boys in the Royal Rangers program. Mel also enjoyed gardening, photography, hunting and water skiing. He was known to be a fixer of all things. He especially cherished the time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jeffery Tschetter in infancy and Douglas Tschetter; one infant grandson, Jonah Lamoreux; one sister, Ardella Tschetter; his father-in-law, Harold Urban; his mother-in-law, Ruth Urban; one brother-in-law, Jerry Urban; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Urban.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Carol A. Tschetter of Huron, his two daughters, Sandra (Terry) Rothe of Papillion, Nebraska and Sharyl (Jim) Lamoreux of Le Mars, Iowa; four grandchildren; Grace Lamoreux, Michael Lamoreux, Jonathan Rothe and Joshua Rothe; one brother-in-law, Stan Tschetter of Arizona; and one sister-in-law, Elaine (Ron) Kleinsasser of Sioux Falls.
