Mavis Marleen Busch Flattum, age 85, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service was held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Riverview United Methodist Church. Her service was live-streamed through our website.

A private burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation was held from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with sharing of memories at 5:00 PM.

Mavis Marleen Busch was born March 23, 1937, to Paul and Marie (Glazier) Busch, at Huron. She graduated from Huron High School in 1955.

In 1959, she married Delbert Hiles, and the couple had 7 children. In 1977, Mavis married LeRoy Flattum, and the couple had 2 children together.

Mavis was a wonderful mother and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She cherished time spend with her family and extended family and looked forward to the big family reunion every three years. She liked to go to yard sales. Mavis enjoyed decorating her home, and loved to help others decorate their homes as well.

Her family and friends will always remember Mavis as a kind, gentle woman who loved her family and would do whatever she could to help anyone who needed it. Even at her own expense.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son in infancy, Chad Flattum; one brother, Don (Verla) Busch; two sisters, Barbara Brown and Zola (Dennis) Mediger; one sister-in-law, Pamela (Richard) Busch; one grandson, Brandon Hiles (son of Todd Hiles); and one nephew, Hondo Busch.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, LeRoy of Huron; her children, Tamara (Paul) Remillard of Sioux Falls, Teresa (Bill) Warwick of Sioux Falls, Todd (Susan) Hiles of Tea, Timm Hiles of Huron, Thad (Melissa) Hiles of Huron, Tom (Kelly) Hiles of Huron, Traci (Sean) Burger of Huron and Kyle (Vanessa) Flattum of Huron.

She will also be greatly missed by her children she loved as if they were her own, Debbie Wenz, Jason Hiles, Adam Hiles and Aaron King.

Left to cherish her memory are 38 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Her siblings will miss her as well, Donna (Lyle) Meyers, Milford (Glenis) Busch, Robert (Peg) Busch, Richard Busch and Roger (Debbie) Busch; as well as countless nephews, nieces and cousins.
