Matilda "Tillie" Pembroke, age 88, of Huron, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. As per her wishes, she was cremated. Her funeral service was held at 1:30 PM, Friday, June 24th, at the Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.
Matilda "Tillie" Jane Pembroke was born June 26, 1927, to Fred and Lillie (Derry) Jones at Erwin, South Dakota. She grew up there and graduated from high school there.
On December 8, 1956, Tillie married Arthur Peek at Lake Preston, he died August 25, 1964.
Tillie graduated from Huron College with a degree in Accounting.She worked for Jones Company, Lothrop Electric, Ferguson Electric, Leighton Chevrolet, the City of Huron and the Huron School District.
On June 13, 1974, Tillie married Leonard Pembroke at Huron. He died June 14, 1975.
Tillie enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and family, working jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading, doing church work and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her two husband; three daughters, Donna Rae at the age of 2 months, Marilyn Novotny in 1992 and Janelle Miller in 2006; one son, Mark Arthur Peek in 1973; two brothers, Howard Jones and Roy Springer; and one sister, Louise Bell.
She is survived by five grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Novotny of Omaha, Nebraska, Jill Novotny of Sioux Falls, April (Chaz) Miller Johnson of Mitchell, Forrest (Jackie) Miller of Portland, Oregon and Neil (Vanessa) Miller of Williamstown, Vermont.
