Mary Rudd, age 89, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the Sandford USD Medical Center at Sioux Falls.

Her Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 23rd at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Burial following in the St. Martins Cemetery.  Her service was live-streamed through our website. 

Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, August 22nd at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present during that time. A prayer service was held at 6:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mary Rudd was born on November 23, 1932, to Muriel Tyrrell, she was adopted by Leo and Mae Manning a short time later, she joined an adopted brother, John and she grew up and lived in the Huron area her whole life. She met Norvin Rudd at the roller-skating rink; they enjoyed roller skating most of their married life. She was even known for knitting and roller-skating at the same time. On October 14, 1950, Mary and Norvin Rudd were married at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Huron. They made their home in Huron.

For all of her married life, she worked as a homemaker, where they raised five children, James, Judith, Ann, Mary and Michael. She worked at the Riverside Motel, Reminder Printing, Taylor Audio & Visual and for the Donut Shoppe as a waitress, coffee maker and cleaner when the shop closed for the day. In the early 1970s she started to collect Red Wing pottery. She traveled to the annual convention in Red Wing, Minnesota every year for almost 30 years, only to stop in the later years due to her failing health. She also was very active in the South Dakota Chapter of the Red Wing Collectors. Mary also loved to sing in the Sweet Adeline's Group and St. Martins' church choir.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Leo and Mae Manning; her biological mother, Muriel Peterson; her oldest son, James Rudd on December 1, 2004; one granddaughter, Jennifer Christian; one step-granddaughter, Hillary Dupic; her brother, John (Jeanette) Manning; and her husband, Norvin, on September 20, 2020.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her four children, Judy (Loren) Nelson of Sioux Falls, Ann (Dwight) Bottum of Tulare, Mary Rudd (Gerald Johnson) of Sioux Falls and Mike (Vicky) Rudd of Huron; six grandchildren, Greg (Mary) Matson of Sioux Falls, Aubrey Rudd of Huron, Nicholas (Miquette) Bottum of Redfield, Cassie Bottum of Redfield, Michael Dupic of Sioux Falls and Christopher Dupic of Harrisburg; five great-grandchildren, Bryce Matson of O'Neil, Nebraska, Chance and Serenity Matson of Sioux Falls, Avery Sobtzak of Huron and Aria Rae-Ann Bottum of Redfield; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
